NACD: 2023 Friends of NACD District Grant Program Recipients Announced The Friends of NACD District Grants Program supports locally led conservation and advances climate resilience, education and youth development, and food security. This year, eight conservation districts will receive $2,500 to implement community-based projects. NACD: NACD Announces 2022 Photo, Poster Contest Winners NACD announced the winners of the 2022 Photo and Poster Contests during the association’s Annual Meeting. The photo contest, open to amateur photographers in both youth and adult divisions, consists of images reflecting four themes. The poster contest, open to students from kindergarten through 12th grade, celebrated the 2022 NACD Stewardship Week theme, “Healthy Soil, Healthy Life.” NACD: USDA Secretary Vilsack Announces Funding for Voluntary Conservation Programs at NACD Annual Meeting During his keynote at NACD’s 77th Annual Meeting, U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the availability of Inflation Reduction Act funding to support oversubscribed voluntary conservation programs. NACD: NACD, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Sign Memorandum of Understanding NACD announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The MOU memorializes the partnership between the organizations and builds on a successful history of collaboration. NACD: NACD Honors National Award Winners at 77th Annual Meeting Numerous national awards were presented at NACD’s Annual Meeting to recognize exceptional contributions and service to conservation. NACD: NACD Leaders Take Office At NACD’s 77th Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, the association elected and administered oaths of office to its new leadership team. This includes NACD’s Officers and Executive Board members.
NFWF: National Coastal Resilience Fund 2023 Request for Proposals The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) is pleased to announce the 2023 National Coastal Resilience Fund Request for Proposals to enhance protections for coastal communities from the impacts of storms, floods, and other natural coastal hazards and to improve habitats for fish and wildlife. No-Till Farmer: New Strip-Till, No-Till, Cover Crops Equipment on Display at National Farm Machinery Show A national farm machinery show was packed with the latest cutting edge technology and product innovations for strip-tillers and no-tillers. USDA: USDA Invests More than $48.6 Million to Manage Risks, Combat Climate Change The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will invest more than $48.6 million this year through the Joint Chiefs’ Landscape Restoration Partnership for projects that mitigate wildfire risk, improve water quality, and restore forest ecosystems.
USDA: Fridays on the Farm: From Veteran to Beginning Farmer Prior to retiring from his 30-year military career, Phil Campbell purchased 40 acres of land and became a full-time farmer. Starting with just cattle, he has grown the operation over the years to add poultry, fruit trees, and a garden. NRCS: Expanded Funding for California Wetlands Through Inflation Reduction Act due March 17th USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in California is currently accepting applications for expanded Wetland Reserve Easements through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Interested landowners have until March 17, 2023, to apply for this special funding through IRA. Oswego County Today: Apply for an Agricultural Land Value Assessment by March 1 The Oswego County Soil and Water Conservation District reminds farmers who own qualifying land to apply for the Agricultural Land Value Assessment before Wednesday, March 1. The Bradford Era: McKean County Manure Management Plans Writing Workshop The McKean County Conservation District will offer a Manure Management Plan Writing Workshop on Friday, March 24. Staff will walk participants through the development of a manure management plan for their farm. Morning Ag Clips: Webinar: Conservation, Crop Insurance During Wet 2019 Spring In an exciting public-private partnership, the United States Department of Agriculture worked with AGree Initiative and the University of Illinois to evaluate conservation and crop insurance data in six states affected by extremely wet spring weather in 2019. Oswego County Today: DEC To Host Virtual Public Information Session For Round 16 Of Urban And Community Forestry Grants The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Urban and Community Forestry Program will host an informational webinar on March 29 in advance of the release of the Round 16 Urban and Community Forestry Program Grant Request for Applications. Ideastream Public Media: New Round of Ohio Open Space Grants Include Funding for Proposals in Stark, Wayne Counties Local government, park districts, conservation districts and nonprofits devoted to conservation and environmental work in Ohio are eligible to apply for the grants.
